About Me

Image: Reed Schick

Julia Ozdych (she/her) was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, where her dance journey began under the guidance of Lisa Hall McKee at Studio Arts for Dancers, a 13-year training odyssey. For seven years, she also danced with the company, Go! Contemporary Dance Works, performing in over twenty productions and annual community appearances around Knoxville.

In August of 2020, she ventured to New York, and in 2023, she proudly graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. During her academic journey, she had the privilege of receiving guidance from esteemed mentors, including Sean Curran, Pamela Pietro, Jeremy Nelson, Indah Mariana, Jamie Thompson, Kayla Farrish, and other notable figures. Julia's artistic prowess graced the stage in the form of four meticulously choreographed pieces showcased in the Tisch Dance Works Productions at the Jack Crystal Theatre. Additionally, she had the honor of performing in works created by renowned choreographers such as Bill T. Jones and Trisha Brown.

Julia's quest for artistic enrichment led her to absorb knowledge from esteemed dance companies, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, David Dorfman Dance, Doug Varone and Dancers, Evidence Dance, Gallim, Gibney Dance Company, Nashville Ballet, New Dialect, Sidra Bell Dance, and Yin Yue.

Expanding her artistic horizons, Julia delved into the world of visual arts, culminating in the creation of two dance-centric short films, which received acclaim at film festivals both regionally and internationally.

Beyond her dedication to dance, she holds a profound affection for rock climbing and mountaineering. Her experiences include conquering challenging peaks and ascending towering walls. Drawing from both her athletic pursuits and performing arts background, she has directed her focus towards conducting personal research on the psychological aspects of athleticism. Specifically, she is deeply intrigued by the mental resilience and unwavering determination required by these pursuits. Continuously seeking fresh ideas and curiosities within the realms of the body and mind, she approaches both her passions and research with boundless curiosity.
